本研究においては、主にネット型球技のプレー開始のための一打目、サーブ技術に着目しそのゲーム構造から本質に迫る目的であったが、考察を進めるうちにサーブと同様の構造を持つ打ち出しが他の分類の種目にも存在することがわかってきた。
サーブ行為は、中世フランスのジュードポームにおいて、元来下級身分の者が貴族や上の身分の者を楽しませる目的で投じられた奉仕的な技術であったことから、「サービス」の名前がついたものであるが、テニスへと移行する長い歴史の流れとともに、さらなる攻防の面白みを求める中で次第にこのサービス技術にも、相手を抑えたり、あるいはプレーの主導権を握る得点源としての要因が含まれるようになってきた。
こうした経緯はもはや周知の事実であるが、ネット型球技以外の分野でもサーブと名がつかなくとも発想においてサーブと同様の背景を有する技術も存在する。
本研究においては、こうした各種目のプレースタイルからプレーの最初がどのような技術で制定されているかを確認しつつ、それぞれの種目の文化的背景やその思想について考察した。
結果として、サーブの名前や、これに類した球出しの技術を今に残す種目は共通的にネットを挟んでボールを打ち合うネット型の種目に大きな影響を与えてきたが、その他の分類に属する、一見かなり異なった種目にもサーブ・第三者による球出しの要素が多分に含まれており、人間が球遊びを楽しむ原点において、この要素は限定された場であることや、その場を支配するルールの受け入れにつながるマインドセットのために、非常に重要な要素であることが考えられる。, The classification of ball games in physical education by the Ministry of Education, Culture,Sports, Science and Technology of Japan is three types of goal type, net type, baseball type.
