 note = {研究ノート, Research Note, 2023年の日米野球界はMLBロサンゼルス・エンゼルスの大谷翔平選手の活躍や国別対抗戦ワールド・ベースボール・クラシック（WBC）での日本の優勝が大きな話題を集め、日本のプロ野球でも人気の阪神タイガースの38年ぶりの日本一で盛り上がりをみせた。野球の楽しさを満喫した年であった。では、その野球を「みる」楽しさ、野球を「みせる」意識はどこに端を発しているのか？　筆者は野球が日本に“輸入”された明治期にすでに「みる」「みせる」意識の萌芽があったと考える。新橋アスレチック倶楽部を結成した平岡熈によって始まる「野球をみせる」意識はその後、早稲田大学野球部出身者を中心に結成された「天狗倶楽部」に受け継がれた。このクラブは勝利を目的に結束する集団ではなく、多士多彩な会員が緩やかに連帯していた集まりである。野球界の堕落ぶりを批判する東京朝日新聞の連載をきっかけに1911年に巻き起こった「野球其害毒」論争では野球擁護の論陣を張り、東京朝日に対抗したことで知られる。しかし、プロ野球の歴史に登場することは少ない。改めて「天狗倶楽部」を再評価し、その野球史における立ち位置を論じる。, In the Japan-America Baseball in 2023, the success of Shohei Otani of the MLB Los Angeles Angels and Japan's victory in the World Baseball Classic (WBC), a national competition, are attracting a lot  of attention, and the Hanshin Tigers are also popular in Japanese Professional Baseball. The team's Japan Champion for the first time in 38 years sparked excitement. It was a year in which I enjoyed the joy of Baseball. So, where does the joy of “watching” baseball and the desire to “show off” baseball originate? The author believes that the idea of“ seeing'' and“ showing” baseball was already budding in the Meiji period when baseball was“ imported” to Japan. The idea of“ Showing Baseball” started by Hiraoka Hiroshi, who founded the Shimbashi Athletic Club, was later inherited by the“ Tengu Club, ” which was formed mainly by former members of Waseda University's baseball club. This club was not a group united for the purpose of victory, but a loose association of diverse members. He is known for taking a stand against the Tokyo Asahi newspaper in favor of baseball during the “Yaku Sono Gaidoku（The Poison Brought by Baseball）” controversy that arose in 1911 after a series of articles in the Tokyo Asahi Shimbun criticizing the corruption of the baseball world. However, it rarely appears in the History of Professional Baseball. We will once again evaluate Tengu Club and discuss its place in Baseball History.},
