 note = {大学生の英語力低下の1つの側面として、英和辞典をうまく利用できないことがある。これは、英語を学習し始めて以来あまり英和辞典を利用する必要がなかったという環境が影響しているようである。また、基礎的な事項を学習する必要がある学生に話を聞くと、中学校や高校での辞書指導もほとんど受けていない。しかし、より自立した学習が求められる大学においては辞書の効率的な利用は重要であり、それが出来ない学生は、大学においても英語力をあまり高めることのないまま卒業を迎えることになってしまう。本報告では、英語の学習において英和辞典を利用する必要性を確認し、学生の辞書利用の実態と高校でのその利用指導について検討する。さらに、英和辞典の利用に慣れさせる取り組みについて報告する。, It is often noted that one aspect of declining English-language ability among Japanese college students is that they can't use English-Japanese dictionaries well. One of the main reasons for this is that students have seldom needed to use dictionaries since they started learning English. Moreover, according to a sample of students who need to learn basic English, they had hardly ever experienced lessons on English-Japanese dictionaries at junior or senior high schools. However, in a college where students should learn more independently, it is essential that they can use dictionaries efficiently. Not being able to effectively use a dictionary may severely hinder any progress in English-language ability.This paper discusses the necessity of English-Japanese dictionaries, even in learning basic English, and considers how well the students use those dictionaries and how high school teachers instruct the use of them.
